Updated:

2005 Spots have filled up faster than anticipated.   We will process applications for 2005 campers as they arrive.  Whether by mail, fax or electronically, all applications are time and date stamped upon their arrival in the office and processed according to their receipt.   The sooner your application is received, the greater your chance of acceptance.  Waiting lists have already begun for many age groups and terms.   Waiting List applications are processed immediately, but campers will not be accepted to a term until the receipt  of an application deposit.

We have waiting lists in most age groups and sessions.    We do anticipate some families making changes before camp, and encourage you to place your son on a waiting list.  In 2004 we were able to accommodate numerous waiting list campers.

Please call or email Lori, our Registrar  for help with  availability or your son's term preference.
We will need this application and a deposit to hold a registration for your son in 2005.

News About Waiting Lists:  Campers are accepted off our waiting list when an opening occurs for their term and grade.  As camp gets closer, we often contact multiple children before one accepts the opening.  In summary, it is difficult to predict how many boys will be taken off the waiting list, but it remains possible with the correct circumstances for even the last boy on the list to be accepted if everyone else has already made plans.

Selecting the Best Term for your Son:
We feel strongly that every camper's eventual goal should be a four-week term, and a vast majority of our current parents echo these feelings. The challenges of four weeks are greater, and so, proportionately are the opportunities for success and reward. We realize, though, that determining the correct term length for your child is a very personal decision. You must evaluate your child's age, personality, maturity, social skills and eagerness to attend camp before selecting a specific term.
Speaking from experience, many first time campers under 10 begin with a two week session. However, most first time campers over nine are ready for and can easily succeed for four weeks. Of course, summer schedules and other factors will also affect your decision. Call a director if you wish to discuss your son specifically.

How do the terms differ? Each term has its own unique personality, benefits and opportunities. We believe that a longer term should be every camper's goal because it provides the camper with more time to develop lasting friendships, to relax and enjoy the camp program, to learn and improve various skills and to build that confidence and responsibility that comes from living away from home and being independent. The two-week options offer a shorter stay, but run concurrently with our four week terms, so that two weekers are exposed to the traditional highlights of the summer. Two-week campers are housed separately in cabins, but will be integrated into the regular program. Because of the calendar overlap, some special activities will be missed, but careful planning ensures that all boys are exposed to a wide variety of tradition and entertainment. The closing for 1A and 2A and the openings for 1B and 2B are abbreviated. All La Junta sessions are exciting, educational and confidence building.

Please Read over these few important policies before completing your online application.  Submittal of an electronic application signifies your acceptance of these policies.

Cabin Assignments: Unless otherwise notified, all campers are placed in cabins according to their current grade in school. Up to two cabinmate requests will be considered and given priority, but final placement will be made at the discretion of the Camp Director. We will limit the number of schoolmates in any cabin.

Foreign Campers: We enjoy and appreciate our foreign campers, however all campers must understand and speak fluent English. This is for the safety and well being of all our campers and counselors.

Early withdrawal and late arrival: No discounts are given for early release or late arrival.  After receipt of tuition, refunds will be given only in case of illness or at the discretion of the Director. If withdrawal is recommended by a physician, then one-half of the remaining fee will be refunded.

Telephone and Visitation policies: Telephone calls to your son should be limited to emergencies and special occasions only. Campers are not allowed to make outgoing calls.  No telephone calls are allowed during the first week of camp. Parents and friends are encouraged to write often as Pony Express is an important highlight of the day. There is no visitation during the session. We ask your full cooperation with these policies as we feel it is in the best interest and security of all our campers. To discuss any matters concerning your camper, you may call the Camp Directors at any time.

Transportation: Coordinated bus travel from Houston and Dallas is available for four week sessions. Other cities and terms will be supported when needed. Campers flying to San Antonio will be met with a chaperoned van or limousine. There is an additional charge for this service.

No food candy or money: No food or candy is allowed in the possession of campers. Food attracts insects and causes problems. All packages containing food will be disposed of at the discretion of the Camp Director. Campers do not need spending money. Please leave all money and valuables at home! Please do not send food, candy, money or valuables to your son. Please relay this to grandparents and friends.

Correspondence: Communication is vital to the success of our camps. Families will receive cards or letters from your child's counselors during their camp session and frequent mail from campers. Campers are required to write weekly on the camp newsletter. Mail is delivered to the cabins daily immediately following rest period, except Sundays. Pony Express is the highlight of the day for many boys and campers look forward to hearing from family and friends.

Faxes and Email: In this hurried age, faxes and emails are encouraged. Due to the additional cost of supplies and labor, incoming faxes and emails will be added to your sons camp store account at the fee of $1.00.  Both will be put with each afternoons Pony Express. To ensure delivery, please send before 1:00 PM each day. Campers will not have an opportunity to respond by email or fax. International campers only may transmit two faxes each week, free of charge. (Additional faxes will be billed at $1.00 per page).
