John
Chapter 4 - Jesus Christ The Soul Winner,
1. Today we see that Christ was a great soul winner!
This distinguishes Him as Divine, the Son of God!
As His teachings identified Him
as A Divine Teacher, We need to examine His concern, method, and success in
Soul Winning!
2. Analysis of Chap: His Conversation with the Samaritian Woman at Jacob's well Vs.1-26; His Emphasis is on Winning Souls-- to His Disciples Vs. 27-38; The Impact of the woman on the City Vs 39-42; His performance of a "Second Miracle" In Galilee Vs. 43-54
3. Let Us See Him As A Soul-Winner!
I. He Seized The Opportunity!
A. On His way from Judah to Galilee. He comes to Samaria History: Northern Tribes Taken Away to Assyria? Poor left and Assyrians came into the land. Attitude of People: They didn't get along with the Jews; Jews were down on them. In the City of Sychar there was Jacob's well. He sat on the well, being worry, about 6th hour, Noon. A Woman Came to the well v. 7. Her Character: she has had 6 husbands, has one now not hers. When He Asked for drink: she was surprised, and brought on a conversation. He turns from physical to the Spiritual V. 10. He points to Living Water, and the result of drinking V. 14. She request, not knowing V. 15. He wants her to Share it --go to husband. This motive for us. Excuses we often make!
II. He Emphasizes The Significance of Now, V. 26
Disciples were occupied about eating V. 31. He explains that He has meat they are not aware of: He is speaking of spiritual matters: To do God's work is meat! It Gives spiritual strength. Being concerned one forgets to eat. Their meat and ours--spiritual. No Need to Wait -- say 4 months to harvest time!
If see correctly--fields white: Literal or figurative
Now is the time to act, people being the field!
Woman went into city and introduces them to Jesus Vs. 27-30. Acting NOW: Cooperation sower/reapers. Reward: Eternal Life Fruits
III. The Impact of the Woman On The City Vs. 39-42. Such was great. She went into the city and introduced them to Jesus (vs. 27-30). Many believed (v. 39). Many more believed because they came and heard (v. 40). There is a lesson for us: Get people to examine the scriptures. He/she who starts and uses what they have will increase in efficiency. Have we learned that?
IV. Performs a "Second Miracle" In Galilee Vs. 46-54. Man's son sick, request, asked about belief. "Go thy way they son liveth." When he returns and find his son is recovered, his faith is increased and "same hour," his "whole house." Remember the purpose of miracles (Jn. 20:30-31) --Memory Verses
Conclusion: There's no greater work than
soul winning. See the Greatest! Jesus was the greatest, we do well to
consider seriously His method!wcs, 2003 QUESTIONS:
