John Chapter 19 - Christ, The Uplifted Savior!

        Introduction: We are drawing near the close of the study -- two more chapters, then we'll have a summary of the book.

1. Called the uplifted Savior. At first this may not seem appropriate, thinking that such would refer to His resurrection.

2. However, John 12:32-33, refers to His being lifted up on the cross.

a. If lifted up --died the death on the cross

1) According to the scriptures, I Cor. 15:3

2) For our sins, Rom. 4:25; I Cor. 15:3

b. Would "draw all men unto" Him:

1) Not every individual, Matt. 7:13-14

2) But men from all nations, thus "all men."

c. Like "Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness" Jn. 3:14; Num. 21:7-9

3. Christ is the UPLIFTED SAVIOR!

a. Three died on the crosses, each differently:

1) One died in sin; 2) One died to sin

3) Jesus died FOR sin! His death unique!

b. He is different things to different people: I Cor. 1: 1) Stumblingblock -- to the Jews V. 23; 2) Foolishness -- to the Greeks, V. 23

3) The power of God, and the wisdom of God -- to the called, V. 24

HIS UPLIFTING!

(Significance seen in that it came)

A. After Pilate announced "I find no fault in Him." V. 6

1. "Behold the man" V. 5; a. Had been beaten

b. Ridiculed, Vs. 1-7

2. Jews "Crucify him, crucify him..."V. 7

3. Reason: "Because he made himself the Son of God." V. 7

B. After they declared that they had "no king but Caesar" whom they hated and despised!

1. They had wanted a KING so bad to deliver them, but in a physical and fleshly manner!

2. They chose the one they hated, before the Son of God! V. 15

3. Written "King of the Jews," they tried to change

this, after written in three languages.

C. Bearing His own cross! V. 17

D. Among the wicked, even though He has done no evil!

E. Fulfilled prophecy uttered many years before, Vs. 23-24; Ps. 22:18

PEOPLE WHO WITNESSED HIS UPLIFTING!

A. Relatives: Mother, aunt, friends, V.25

1. Told mother to "behold thy son"

2. Told brother, John, "Behold thy mother"

B. Soldiers, V. 34 Piercing his side, from which flowed "blood and water" Quote from Zerr, page 264

1. Record given by witnesses, V. 35

2. Record is true, V. 35

3. Record given, "that ye might believe," V. 35

4. Unusual section, to fulfill scripture Vs. 36-37

MESSAGE FROM CROSS--HIS UPLIFTING!

A. A Concerned about earthly relations-- "behold" son and mother Vs. 26-27

1. These are important

2. Such is indicated by his mentioning them in this hour of pain

B. The scriptures shall be "fulfilled" in every detail V. 28

C. His work is completed, "It is finished." V. 30

1. His suffering for man; 2. The Mosaic age; 3. The redemption of man; 4. The empire of SatanConclusion: Value of Him Being Lifted?Questions:
