Have you ever had a friend that when you ask them for a favor they always are willing to do it and are cheerful and happy while they are helping you? Or do you have a friend that will help you depending on what favor you want them to do? Or maybe one of those friends that always has an excuse for not helping you when you ask. When I read John 15. 13-15:
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you."It touches my heart that Jesus calls me friend. Out of the three types of friends described in the beginning of this article, which one are you to Jesus? You must remember the words we sing in the hymn that says God has no hands but our hands and has no mouth but our mouth. That is so true. 2 Timothy 4:2 tells us
"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine."Jesus is the epitome of friendship. He died for our sins and loves us unconditionally. So when He commands in Mark 16:15
"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."How can we dare for our heart bear not to do it? Has our love for Christ grown cold? Acts 5:42
"And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."Do you have this type of passion in your love for God's word? Clearly we should.
Consider this question from Romans 10:14
"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?" Matthew 5:14-16 "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works. and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Acts 8:4 "Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word."In light of the preceding evidences what kind of friend are you to Jesus? What should you be doing with God's word? When was the last time you brought a visitor to worship services? When was the last time you held or initiated a Bible study for the purpose of converting someone? Do you have the courage to tell me if I am doing wrong in accordance to God's word?
If our heart is right with God we should be burning for the cause of
Christ. Revelations 3:15,16
"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold norhot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."
Jesus tells us in John 13:34
"A new commandment I give unto you,That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." How can we love anyone and not bother being concerned about their salvation? James 5:20 "Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins." Home
